Hazardous waste is the responsibility of the generator of that waste. In order to have laboratory waste picked up, the following requirements must be met:
- The outside of each container must be clean.
- Each container must have a HW tag that is filled out completely with all chemicals present in the container.
- Characteristic Label must be marked to indicate all physical hazards associated with the material inside the container, (Flammable, Corrosive, Toxic, Reactive, and/or Oxidizer).
- The container(s) must be closed at all times unless adding material.
- Each container must be entered into the database individually.
- Waste containers must be kept in a secure location where the material was created.
- Hazardous waste containers must never be left in the hallway.
- All liquid waste must have pH listed on tag. (Must be checked with litmus paper)
USC EHS has the right to reject any hazardous waste containers that do not comply with the previous requirements listed above.
